REGISTRATION CLOSED!

Application period is now closed for the 4th edition of the STABLE ISOTOPE COURSE IN ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, which will be held on 22nd-25th February 2022, organized by the Laboratorio de Isótopos Estables at Estación Biológica de Doñana  (LIE-EBD, CSIC, Sevilla).

Following the success of the FIRST, SECOND and THIRD EDITIONS, this course will develop a conceptual, quantitative, and thorough understanding of principles of stable isotopes and its applications in aquatic and terrestrial ecological studies. The course includes an introductory session on the applications of stable isotopes to ecological and environmental studies including a general introduction to the stable isotope biochemistry and ecology, trophic and spatial applications and general laboratory methodologies. In the present edition of the course, the rest of the program will be focused on the analyses of stable isotopes on compound specifics (CSIA), and their applications including various thematic lectures: introduction to CSIA, technical equipment, steps prior to stable isotope analyses, applications to different areas with special attention to environmental sciences.

The course also includes some practical sessions in the Laboratory (LIE) and a visit to the EBD Natural History Scientific Collection, where participants could better understand the value of these scientific infrastructures for long term studies using stable isotope analyses. The course will finish with a field trip to Doñana National Park.

The course is open to the participation of graduate and PhD students, professors, researchers and laboratory technicians interested in learning more about the stable isotope approach in general and CSIA in particular to solve ecological problems.  We look forward to receive applications from people with backgrounds in disciplines including animal and plant physiology, ecology and ecosystem science, biogeochemistry, anthropology, atmospheric science, marine science, oceanography, paleontology, forensic science, industry and geology.
