The symposium "Global Change in the Mediterranean: Learning from experiences worldwide" was successfully carried out.

One hundred and twenty people attended this meeting. Results indicate that organisms have mechanisms to interact with changing environments, and that there is great plasticity within organisms which is not necessarily reflected in immediate changes in DNA sequence. Organizers suggest that one of the main contributions of this meeting is that new research methods have been presented to document not only the current climate change processes, but also to determine the speed and direction of the changes that occurred in the past, particularly in the transition from cold to warm periods, dry or wet, and the response of organisms and populations.
