Collection of Vertebrates on Canal Sur TV

Canal Sur Television has made a comprehensive documentary on the Collection of Vertebrates of Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC). In the basement of the EBD building, one of the best collections of vertebrates is maintained for scientific use. Altogether more than 140 thousand specimens of great utility, at European scale, are used by numerous research groups. Most specimens were collected during scientific studies carried out in the middle of the last century in the Iberian peninsula, Africa and Latin America, although still new animals are added to the collection, provided by different public entities (recovery centers of wild animals, customs, animals found dead accidentally). Among the specimens that are classified in this collection there are a large number of Iberian lynxes, Spanish imperial eagles and even species that have become extinct or are on the brink of extinction such as the Andalusian hemipode (Turnix sylvaticus).
