Open Call for Research Projects in ICTS-Doñana!

The Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure Doñana Biological Reserve (ICTS-Doñana) announces the opening of a call for international research projects in the Doñana Natural Space.

Selected projects will receive a grant of up to €10,000 per application, intended to cover expenses such as travel and per diems for researchers, consumables, and small research project materials.

Priority will be given to international projects that collaborate with Spanish research teams in Doñana Natural Space, that make use of the facilities of the ICTS and/or use environmental monitoring data provided by ICTS-Doñana.

The call for proposals will remain open until 30 June 2024, with priority given to projects led by young researchers and women.

Doñana teems again with butterflies

Since 2007, from March to October, technicians from Doñana's Biodiversity Monitoring Group (ICTS-RBD) perform regular surveys of butterflies. The surveys are performed in five different study sites, designed to include Doñana's most characteristic habitat types: scrubland, wet grassland, pine forest and gallery forest.

These data are integrated into the Spanish Butterfly Network (BMS-Spain), of which the Doñana Biological Station is a founding partner, and the European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (eBMS, https://butterfly-monitoring.net/es).

Butterflies are monitored in the two Andalusian National Parks: Doñana and Sierra Nevada. Building on the close collaboration between Doñana's ICTS-RBD and Sierra Nevada's Global Change Observatory, a field guide of Andalucia's most common butterfly species was recently published.
