My research focus on the interplay between behavioural, evolutionary and population ecology. I combine comparative analyses and molecular ecology tools with long term monitoring and field experiments to respond a wide range of questions related to the conservation of biodiversity, the evolution of life-history and ecological interactions. In the recent years, my efforts have concentrated into understanding the transmission dynamics of different pathogens, mainly West Nile virus. My current research focus on the One Health paradigm, analyzing the ecological and environmental factors that favor or limit the transmission of pathogens, with a special attention to zoonotic pathogens in natural and urban areas. I aim to generate tools for early warning of West Nile Virus transmission risk and to reduce the impact of vector borne pathogens on humans, by developing strategies to vector control that maximize its effectiveness will reducing their impact on biodiversity and environmental health. I am the head of the unique group specialized in zoonotic diseases that form part of the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red en Epidemiología y Salud Publica (CIBER ESP CB15/00064).
