About the talk

The Iberian lynx faced severe genetic decline but has made a remarkable recovery through intensive conservation efforts. This talk explores how genetic rescue helped restore its genetic diversity and fitness, the role of past introgression with the Eurasian lynx, and how balancing selection may have preserved diversity in small populations.

About the speaker

Environmental biologist specialized in terrestrial ecology and biodiversity management. During her degree and master’s studies at Autonomous University of Barcelona, she co-founded and collaborated with a local NGO. She completed a first-class honors master’s thesis at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology and has over two years of research experience at the University of Barcelona and the Botanical Institute of Barcelona, focusing on population genomics and molecular ecology. Additionally, she broadened her international research expertise with a STSM grant from the GBIKE project at KU Leuven in Belgium and contributed to science communication for the Catalan Initiative for the Earth Biogenome Project.
