Mosquito species of public health importance use acoustic cues to detect mating partners. Because hearing is essential for mosquito mating, the auditory system represents a promising target for reproductive control strategies. In this talk, I will provide an overview of our current understanding of mosquito audition, with a particular focus on auditory modulation, and discuss the implications of this knowledge for the development of novel control strategies.
