Ecology and Evolution

Carlos
Camacho

My research addresses issues at the intersection of ecology, evolution, and behaviour. Much of the data I use comes from long-term (15-40 years) studies of marked individuals in their natural environments, such as that of the red-necked nightjar in the Doñana National Park, S Spain. Current research interests include: (1) post-fledging ecology, from independence and prospection to dispersal and settlement (2) phenotypic selection in natural populations, and (3) evolution of nocturnality. My research group usually comprises 4-5 students, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates, and 1-2 research assistants. Our research combines field observations and field experiments to address basic questions in evolutionary ecology and applied questions in conservation biology.

My research is mainly carried out at the Doñana National Park Area, but I also conduct research in such unique areas as the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) and the Djoudj National Park (Senegal) in collaboration with international institutions such as McGill University in Canada and Lund University in Sweden.
