Brief description
Variation in the sex ratio of the offspring is a critical life history trait with important evolutionary ramifications. This trait is also paramount for animal breeders and in general for the area of animal production. This project will forge new directions in the study of sperm choice and gamete interactions leading to adaptive sex allocation in mammals, and thus will generate results that are at the forefront of evolutionary and conservation biology. Mice are a suitable model system for research on mammals and in this particular study we will use the Western Mediterranean mouse to test the theory of sex allocation and explore potential male-driven mechanisms underlying such adaptive responses.
