I study aspects related to the ecology and conservation of carnivores, including species such as the genet, the wildcat, the domestic cat, the Iberian lynx on the Iberian Peninsula, and the jaguar and puma in South America. I am interested in understanding how a carnivore community behaves and is structured, the interactions resulting from competition and interference, and predator-prey relationships. My most recent projects have focused on the traditional hypothesis of trophic segregation among conspecifics or individuals within the carnivore order, using advanced genetic techniques, and on the potential impact of domestic cats on wildcat populations.

The results of my research are applied to conservation and recovery plans for threatened and protected species.
