Ecological interactions between anuran tadpoles and aquatic macrophytes
About the talk
Both tadpoles and aquatic macrophytes are common components of freshwater systems and influence important aspects of their functioning. However, interactions between tadpoles and aquatic plants have received little attention. My PhD project aims to understand how different tadpole species can affect aquatic plant communities in temporary ponds by assessing how herbivory by tadpoles can influence plant biomass and whether tadpoles can ingest and then transport viable seeds. To answer these questions, I conduct mesocosm and seed germination experiments.
About the speaker
I studied Biology at Universidad de Navarra and later a Master's degree in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO). During the master, I joined Andy Green's lab at the EBD, after obtaining a JAE-Intro grant to study seed dispersal by wintering geese in Doñana. In January 2023, I started my PhD on tadpole-aquatic plant interactions, supervised by Iván Gómez-Mestre and Carmen Díaz-Paniagua.
