Descripción
Reducing direct human pressures and improving the biodiversity status by safeguarding species diversity are two strategic goals of the Aichi targets, which the EU is committed to compliance. For this, it is essential to identify species threats and to project the fate of species under different plausible scenarios of environmental change. This research aims to develop predictive species distribution and species diversity models for European vertebrates from a novel perspective through integrating drivers of species distributions at different spatial scales. These drivers include three main sources of environmental variability that have previously been considered in species-environment modeling approaches mostly in isolation: (1) Land-use and land-cover, and (2) climate and environmental energy constraints. The general objective of this proposal is to provide projections of patterns in species distributions and richness in relation to these interacting and changing environmental drivers across scales.
