With the Severo Ochoa award we aim to transform the foundations of the EBD-CSIC to maintain it at the international forefront of knowledge and provide solutions to the biodiversity and global change crisis facing humanity today. Our plan to achieve this focuses on three overarching strategic goals: 1) To maintain our international leadership by updating our research capacity and portfolio of research lines, rejuvenating our scientific staff, making it more international and improving the representation of women. 2) To improve our transference capacity by increasing the value of our research results, knowledge and skills to society and by investing resources in all the steps of the process, including the characterization of environmental problems, the design, evaluation and implementation of management strategies, and the influence on both citizens through dissemination and training and on society as a whole through science for policy approaches at all scales, from local to global.
3) To convert Doñana as a leading international reference example in the study and analysis of complex global change problems in which the
unsustainable use of resources, land use changes, invasive species and climate change interactact, as well as in the design and application of environmental, social and economic adaptation policies in the medium and long term. Doñana should be an important leverage linking the first two strategic goals.
