Bioaccumulation and biomagnification of classical flame retardants in three delphinids

Occurrence and behaviour of classical (PBDEs) and alternative (HNs, HBB, PBEB, DBDPE and HBCD) flame retardants, together with naturally produced MeO-PBDEs, were studied in short-beaked common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas) in two sampling locations from Southern European waters.

Measuring oxidative stress

Oxidative stress affects may exert strong effects on individual health and fitness. Lipid peroxidation products are widely used as markers of oxidative damage in the organism. This paper investigates the relationship between circulating lipids and two common markers of oxidative damage.

Downsized mutualisms: Consequences of seed dispersers’ body-size reduction for early plant recruitment

In this study the consequences of body-size reduction of Giant Canarian lizards (g. Gallotia, Lacertidae) on the recruitment of Neochamaelea pulverulenta (Rutaceae), an endemic shrub relying exclusively on these frugivores for seed dispersal, are evaluated.

Invasive rats on a coral atoll

On tropical islands populations of different invasive rat species can co-exist on very small islands, but the population dynamics of such co-existing rat species, their impact on each other, and the mechanisms of coexistence are not well known.

Feeding habits and trophic position of three marine predators in the Mediterranean Sea

Understanding how marine predators interact is a scientific challenge. In marine ecosystems, segregation in feeding habits has been largely described as a common mechanism to allow the coexistence of several competing marine predators. However, little is known about the feeding ecology of most species of chondrichthyans.
