Drylands are warming faster than most ecosystems, and seedling establishment is one of their main bottlenecks. This talk explores whether dung beetles, by burying dung into the soil, can facilitate shrub seedlings under climate warming. To test this, we ran a 3 × 3 field experiment in Doñana Natural Park (Spain) and the Kalahari Desert (South Africa), crossing open-top-chamber warming with dung treatments under natural beetle colonisation, and measured seedling growth, survival and soil chemistry. In addition, we developed Bayesian models that forecast dung beetle abundance in time and across space from continuous pitfall monitoring, as part of the Doñana Digital Twin
