Soil microbes are the most abundant organisms on the planet, yet there are still fundamental gaps of knowledge in the importance of soil biodiversity for maintaining multiple ecosystem functions. Similarly, relatively little is known about the global drivers and the global change vulnerabilities of soil biodiversity worldwide, even for the most dominant taxa.
