The Doñana Biological Station awarded the prestigious Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction

The Doñana Biological Station is one of three CSIC institutes to receive this distinction in the provisional resolution announced by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI). This distinction recognizes the center’s scientific impact and international leadership. The Doñana Biological Station will receive €5.75 million to fund its strategic plan, along with 10 grants for researcher training.

The Doñana Biological Station has been awarded the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence accreditation for its scientific impact and international leadership, according to the provisional resolution of the latest call by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).

This accreditation serves a dual purpose: first, to recognize the scientific impact and global leadership of the Doñana Biological Station; and second, to provide funding of €5.75 million to support the center’s strategic plan. In addition, 10 grants have been awarded for the training of predoctoral researchers, aligned with the center’s priority research lines and strategic programs. The strategic plan will be implemented from 2025 to 2028.

The evaluation and selection of Severo Ochoa centers and María de Maeztu research units is carried out independently by an international scientific committee composed of highly regarded researchers with a strong global track record.

With this provisional resolution, a total of 14 CSIC centers now hold the Severo Ochoa distinction, and four research units have been recognized with the María de Maeztu accreditation.
