I am an evolutionary and community ecologist and work with ants as a model system. My main research interest is the evolution of the caste system in thermophilic desert ants Cataglyphis and the ecological advantage of thermophily. This line of research has been extended in recent years by studying the effects of disturbances (fires) and biological invasions (Argentine ants).
The results of my research (for example, the ant monitoring protocol) could be applied in the field of agroecology to assess the effectiveness of different treatments (use of insecticides/herbicides, planting cover crops, plantation design, etc.) on the maintenance of biodiversity and beneficial fauna.
