Doñana Biological Station launches the video series “Understanding Doñana to Understand the World”

The Doñana Biological Station, recently awarded the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction, has released a new series titled “Understanding Doñana to Understand the World.” This collection of five short, animated outreach videos is aimed at the general public and highlights both the history of Doñana and the scientific work carried out by this CSIC research center to better understand how biodiversity is generated, sustained, and how it responds to environmental changes—in Doñana and globally. A new episode will premiere every Monday on the center’s YouTube channel.
Each episode presents key research topics in an engaging and accessible way, focusing on work conducted in Doñana, one of Europe's most important natural areas. The series emphasizes its role as a natural laboratory for producing knowledge applicable to other ecosystems and for generating data that contributes to improved management of the protected area. The videos also highlight the efforts of scientists and technical staff from the Doñana Biological Station across Spain and beyond, offering insights into how biodiversity works and the strategies needed to conserve it.
The series includes five episodes:
1. From Hunting Ground to Global Biodiversity Reference
2. Evolution: The Key to Biodiversity
3. Together for Biodiversity Conservation
4. Adaptation and Resilience in the Face of Global Change
5. The Web of Biodiversity
Through this initiative, the Doñana Biological Station reinforces its commitment to science, biodiversity conservation, and science outreach, with the goal of making knowledge more accessible to society and emphasizing the vital role of research in understanding and protecting the planet’s ecosystems in the face of global change.
The production of this series was made possible thanks to the QUALIFICA Program (QUAL21-020), funded by the Regional Government of Andalusia – Ministry of Universities, Research, and Innovation.
