The general objective of STRONG is to develop a stress-test for the Natura 2000 network filling the current knowledge gap on the vulnerability of PAs to global change and explore how this vulnerability could be addressed through adequately planned monitoring and management. With this, STRONG aims to contribute to better know the strengths and weaknesses of conservation efforts under plausible future scenarios, in a standardised and reproducible way. To achieve the overall objective the following specific objectives will be pursued: Develop spatially explicit projections of different drivers of global change under different future scenarios; Project the impact of future drivers and their interactions on the distribution of biodiversity; Assess the vulnerability of the Natura 2000 network to future global change, identifying those PAs and species under higher risk, depending on each scenario; Prioritise the spatial allocation of monitoring and management efforts to reduce the vulnerability of the Natura 2000 network; Assess the impact of uncertainty in the results.
